Chronic Depression
(dysthymic disorder) is indicated when you have a depressed mood for
most of the day, for more days than not, for at least 2 years. In children
and adolescents, the expressed mood can be either depression or irritation
and the duration must be at least 1 year.
Evaluation
If you checked
two of the boxes above and have been depressed most of the day on most
days for at least 2 years, you might have a dysthymic disorder. You
should consult with a psychologist for a more thorough assessment and
any necessary assistance. This type of depression can be treated through
a combination of talk therapy and useful medications.
