C H R O N I C    D E P R E S S I O N

Chronic Depression (dysthymic disorder) is indicated when you have a depressed mood for most of the day, for more days than not, for at least 2 years. In children and adolescents, the expressed mood can be either depression or irritation and the duration must be at least 1 year.

Evaluation

If you checked two of the boxes above and have been depressed most of the day on most days for at least 2 years, you might have a dysthymic disorder. You should consult with a psychologist for a more thorough assessment and any necessary assistance. This type of depression can be treated through a combination of talk therapy and useful medications.
